Holidays in the Vinschgau Valley

NATURE, CULTURE,

HISTORY

A sunken village, a journey back in time to the Middle Ages and world-famous marble: the Venosta Valley has many facets. There are exciting corners to discover as far as the Reschen Pass and in the quaint side valleys.

As the southernmost municipality in the valley, Castelbello/Kastelbell is also the gateway to the Merano/Meran region. Embark on your very own journey of discovery and get to know the country and its people.

THE VINSCHGAUCARD

You will receive the VinschgauCard on arrival all year round. In addition to free use of the Venosta Valley railway and all other public transport in South Tyrol, it also offers discounts at museums and cable cars.

CASTLES AND PALACES

Time-honored walls

There are around 40 castles and palaces in the Venosta Valley. At AMARIL, you have a direct view of Castelbello Castle, which towers above the village. Juval Castle, home to the Messner Mountain Museum and summer residence of mountaineering legend Reinhold Messner, is just a few minutes' drive or a hike along the Waalweg.

STELVIO NATIONAL PARK

One of the largest nature reserves in Europe

Glaciers, rushing torrents, lush forests and lush mountain meadows form the landscape, which is home to rare plants and wild animals. Five visitor centers provide information about the rich flora and fauna. The panoramic road to the Stelvio Pass is also the highest pass road in Italy and, with its 48 hairpin bends, one of the most impressive roads in the world.

SCHNALSTAL GLACIER

On the trail of Ötzi

The icy giant of the Schnalstal Glacier rises high above Kurzras. The glacier lift takes you up to an altitude of 3,212 meters. From the “Iceman Ötzi Peak” viewing platform, the view extends to 126 three-thousand-metre peaks in three countries and, with a bit of luck, even as far as the blue Adriatic Sea.

GLURNS

The smallest town in the Alps

A visit to Glurns is like a journey through time. The town has retained its medieval flair to this day: massive town walls, fortified towers, magnificent town houses and picturesque alleyways wherever you look. With just under 900 inhabitants, Glurns is one of the smallest towns in the world.

RESCHENSEE

Val Venosta's striking landmark

Lake Reschen in the Upper Venosta Valley is a paradise for water sports enthusiasts and is famous for its sunken church tower - probably the most famous photo motif in the Venosta Valley. It is a reminder of the former village of Alt-Graun, which was flooded when the reservoir was created in 1950.

CITY OF MERAN

Where palm trees meet peaks

Merano, where the Austrian Empress Sissi once took the waters, is just a few minutes' drive away. Stroll through the historic arcades, listen to a concert in the Kurhaus or marvel at the splendor of the flowers in the gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle - the town on the Passer could not be more versatile.
